Dec 30, 2015 I finally noticed that the IDE ATA/ATAPI controller ( which is an Intel (R) 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset Family 6 Port SATA AHCI Controller - 10C02) is not starting up. I figured it was an old driver, but it says it has the most recent driver when I tried that.

ATAPI drivers are tiny programs that enable your ATAPI hardware to communicate with your operating system software. Maintaining updated ATAPI software prevents crashes and maximizes hardware and system performance. Using outdated or corrupt ATAPI drivers can cause system errors, crashes, and cause your computer or hardware to fail. Furthermore, installing the wrong ATAPI drivers can make these problems even worse.
Recommendation: If you are inexperienced with updating ATAPI device drivers manually, we highly recommend downloading the ATAPI Driver Utility. This tool will download and update the correct ATAPI driver versions automatically, protecting you against installing the wrong ATAPI drivers.
Hello-
I've been very frustrated with my upgrade to Windows 10 from Windows 7 on my Desktop computer. I've upgraded two computers at my house to Windows 10. Both have had much different results. My Windows 8 laptop upgraded easily and operates nicely with the update. My much faster Desktop went from Windows 7 to Windows 10 and is now super laggy and has been a horrible update. I upgraded both with existing (meaning I didn't do a full wipe and install..but the laptop had nearly nothing on it to begin with).
So I have been trying to figure out what my real problems were with the update on the Desktop (formerly Windows 7 and had tons of old apps, files, etc). I finally noticed that the IDE ATA/ATAPI controller ( which is an Intel (R) 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset Family 6 Port SATA AHCI Controller - 10C02) is not starting up. I figured it was an old driver, but it says it has the most recent driver when I tried that. I then tried to uninstall the driver and do a restart, but it still says it is not starting (I believe it installed the same driver again).
I then posted on the reddit for Windows 10 and got the advice to use an Intel utility for the drivers, but that also recognized that the driver was up to date and did nothing. Last night I backed up all my files and did a wipe and fresh install of Windows 10..but still the Intel (R) 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset Family 6 Port SATA AHCI Controller - 10C02) is not starting up and has a yellow exclamation point through it in Device Manager So now I am not experienced enough to know what I should do next. I am figuring that this is just not as compatible with Windows 10 like it was identified and that I should go back to Windows 7..but I am past my 30 days at this point.
